Concept:
The Steeped tea shop gets its name from the concept of the building design. Through research I learned that traditional Chinese architecture followed several rules, including an axis-centered principle, three sections along a North-South orientation, symmetrical layouts, one-story designs, southern entrances, and inner courtyard spaces. I tried to use all of these ideas as the foundation for my design, the outcome being a building that is "steeped" in traditional Chinese architecture. I wanted a design that is modern New York with nods to the traditional Chinese architecture.
